What Is Worse?

I have always wondered
But have never figured
What is worse?
Aborting a female fetus
Or giving birth to a girl
And telling her
That she was never wanted?

I have always wondered
But have never figured
What is worse?
To put an end to her existence
Once and for all
Or carry on and give life to her
And then hammering on her mind
That her existence means nothing at all?

I have always wondered
But have never figured
What is worse?
To let her rest in peace
Before she is born
Or to slice her heart in pieces later
And leave her mind
Being haunted
By hurt and depression
Leaving permanent mark of parents confession
Ill-treating her
For the rest of her life
Poking her
With words sharper than knife?

I have always wondered...

Poem dedicated to all the girls facing abuse.

She has the right to live in this world.
Do we have the right to take away another person's life?

  4. Good thoughts, Arti

But then, I have always wondered... Can two men copulate and produce atleast a boy child??

We are the ones who take our part in abusing girl children....when I say we -- it may not be me or you -- but then the women generally...

Rest, speaking of abuse -- we can always educate or contribute to the education of girl chidren --

But what of the educated grown up women who subject themselves to abuse ---- Well we glorify it calling it love -- in a way our family system is based on that....no?

But then think of it -- It lies in the strong hands of the women to take all things onto themselves ang provide comfort to others in the family --

    wishes,
    devika

  5. Kyun nahi samajh aayega?
You are right - one should never deprive anyone of the many wonders and delights and work towards making the world a safer place.
I sincerely hope that child abuse (of any kind) is stopped forever and all the child within every child is preserved, the happiness of childhood is maintained

    Thanks, Sourish.

  6. She has the right to live and "love".
Let every child be loved the way it is supposed to be loved. Be it a girl or a boy.

    Thanks Venus.

  7. These are the thoughts that were bothering my mind when I wrote this poem. Unfortunately, there are parents out there who do not value what they have in their life. Their loss.

Hope your parents understand you, soon.

  8. Thanks for your comment Devika.
Yes, it is in the hands of the woman to take things in control.
However, unfortunately there are a few mothers who fail to understand the girl child. What about them?

I think I did pretty well, considering I started out with nothing but a bunch of blank paper.
